Technological advancements have quickly changed the classroom environment. Just a few short decades ago, students wrote everything by hand, and teachers presented the majority of learning material on a blackboard. Today, not only has the blackboard been replaced by dry erase boards, but curriculum can be communicated between teacher to student more quickly using computers, slide shows and PowerPoint presentations. While the rate of change may seem overwhelming, it is only expected to continue to heighten.

Today, thanks to the use of internet, technology, and online teaching tools, teachers are able to make the classroom setting much more enjoyable, and much more interactive for the students who are taking the class. Teaching technology at the middle or junior high school level can be both challenging and rewarding. Technology can be taught using both experimental learning with student interests. Teaching technology in a motivating way can be beneficial because it requires active participation. When students have to actively participate in a lesson they are also practicing problem solving strategies as well as developing higher order thinking skills. In today’s tough economy and competitive job market, having access to up-to-date technology in the classroom is important for every student. Whether used in design and drafting courses or to complete English and Accounting assignments, good training in classroom technology provides essential job skills for high school students. While most young people are adept at using technology in their spare time, it is also important that they understand how to use the major software suites and packages. Classroom setups are not how they used to be thirty or forty years ago. In fact, a lot has changed as far as structure goes. Now it is not unusual to see a powerpoint projector screen in every room, and it is commonplace for at least one computer to be present. With the advent of the laptop and now the smartpads, many schools are considering utilizing this technology in everyday classroom scenarios. These days our children are expected to learn more than we ever did. They are also learning things faster than we did.
